Hattiesburg rock band King Konga will reunite for a benefit concert at Hattiesburg Cycles on Thursday, September 11. The concert is being held in honor of Star Osborn, a friend of the band who was in a motorcycle accident on July 15th. The accident caused a major head injury and has left Osborn in a coma. "[Star's husband] John was there for us when we were building our following, so now it's time for us to be there for him and Star," said King Konga vocalist Tony Lymon. King Konga has not preformed since the band's break up after the release of 2001's Something Good. Before their splitting up, the group released two albums, the aforementioned Something Good and 1997's Monkey See, Monkey Groove. The band's members met as Southern Miss students in the mid-1990s, some of whom performed in The Pride marching band. Opening the concert will be South City Records band Sypher, the winner of last year's Rock War Challenge. Local bands Elise and Green Co will also take part in the benefit. Before the show, there will be a silent auction beginning at 4:30 p.m and going until 7:35. Items available at the auction will include gift certificates from the Keg & Barrel, a 42" plasma TV and a guitar signed by the members of Sypher. All proceeds from the concert will go directly to the Osborns' medical bills and living expenses. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.starosbornbenefit.com. The show starts at 5:00 p.m.
