The company behind the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying games announced that they will offer grants to a number of college gaming clubs across the country.
The grants are part of a program called "Expand Your Role". The program is meant to encourage and reward student groups for their continued interest in roleplaying. The idea behind it is that every player has an important role to play, no matter how small it may seem. Scott Rouse, a senior brand manager at the company says, "Everyone works together to achieve a common goal. Since Dungeons & Dragons is the original - and most popular - roleplaying game, we wanted to celebrate the team spirit of our nation's roleplaying clubs by providing them the resources they need to enhance their experiences."
Grants are available in amounts ranging from $50 up to a maximum of $1,000. The money can be used for club-related activities such as paying for game supplies, refreshments, building web sites, advertising or funding trips to gaming conferences. A minimum of 15 grants will be awarded.
One application will be accepted per student group. The program is open to both existing clubs and students looking to start new ones. Eligible clubs must have at least 4 members, including a faculty advisor, and must meet at least once a month. The Dungeons & Dragons game should also be the primary focus of the organization. Applications are due May 15, 2007.
