Pillow Talk: Everyone should have a fetish

Most people have something that really hits the spot. It may be something that is performed to his or her own body, or something that he or she performs on the partner's body. Either way, these little quirks and pleasures are fetishes.

The extreme fetish practitioners have caused the word fetish to be taboo. While some of the more outlandish and original fetishes, such as those that involve human wastes or animals, are unhealthy and perhaps even illegal, there are fetishes that can suit most needs.

The fun part about discovering a favorite fetish is the experimenting required to find what's good and what's not. Something mild to start out with would be foods. Whip cream and dessert toppings can be decadent for the sweet tooth. Something a little more unique would be incorporating favorite foods maybe spaghetti and making the stomach a plate.

Whatever the dish may be, be sure to clean everything up afterwards. Make sure to take a shower together and wash thoroughly because not cleaning can lead to bad infections.

If foods don't wet your palate, perhaps a little bondage might. This is a tricky task as it requires trust, which is part of the enjoyment. If being tied up proves to be uncomfortable, blindfolding is an alternative that allows more maneuvering. The main joy of this fetish is trusting your partner, and sometimes the consenting helplessness that goes with it.

For those that like it a little rough, nothing beats sadomasochism. Pun intended. I suggest that partners each try on the roles of dominant and submissive. This is one fetish that usually requires toys and a wardrobe, which is a great reason to buy leather whips, ticklers and those patent leather boots with the five inch spiked heels.

Once everyone is dressed up and ready to go, move at a natural pace. S&M is stereotypically considered an angry, harsh fetish because of the pain involved. That does not mean the pain isn't loving and sensuous. Kisses and cuddles are allowed if the couple wishes it, particularly after a hard spanking.

If none of these fetishes are tempting or pleasing there are some that require little or no preparation. This would include boots, panties, various fascinations with body parts, exhibitionism, voyeurism and many other possibilities. Many of these things may be considered uncomfortable or wrong, but if the right precautions are taken, it can be safe, legal and enjoyable. The main goal is for the people involved to enjoy the experience.

Both participants, or however many there may be, must want to take part. Be vocal about comfort levels, have safety words and research what is unknown. What better way to take a break from writing that final paper than to look up new toys, techniques and positions?
