THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Southern Miss women’s cross country team posted its best finish in the 2009 Conference USA Cross Country Championships since 2005, placing eighth Saturday at the Bear Branch Sportsfields in The Woodlands, Texas.
In muddy and sloppy course conditions, the SMU women’s team took the C-USA Championship for the second year in a row, claiming the first back-to-back title since 2004 when Marquette notched its fifth consecutive win.
Freshman Stephanie Ledgerwood (24) was the Eagles’ top finisher covering the 5K course in a time of 19:26.7, followed by Zuna Portillo (26) with a time of 19:28.0.
Rounding the Golden Eagles runners were Krista Moylan (38) in a time of 19:54.2, Jocelyn Lockhart (48) at 20:13.7, Kara Moylan (69) at 21:37.8, Kelley Rooney (78) at 23:09.4 and LeSheika Dinkins (81) at 24:41.7.
