Tyndall wins in return to Morehead State
While Donnie Tyndall is used to winning in Johnson Arena at Morehead State, he isn’t used to coaching against Morehead State. Tyndall’s current team, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, dominated the contest against the Morehead State Eagles, winning 94-58.
Southern Miss held a 22-5 lead to start the game, and held a sizable lead throughout the contest before putting the game out of reach in the second half.
Southern Miss placed five in double figures, including Rashard McGill and Jerrold Brooks who scored 18 a piece in the win. Neil Watson added 14 points and 11 assists for the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss shot an impressive 57.7 percent from the field on the game. Those 94 points were the highest at the time since the 2010 season.
Eagles handle cross-town rival
While the game started out close, the Eagles would prove to be too much for the Crusaders of William Carey, as Southern Miss would cruise to an 89-59 victory at home.
Southern Miss used a 25-5 run mid-way through the first half to pull ahead. The Eagles would not let up in the second half, leading by as much as 31.
Jonathan Mills led the Eagles with 19 points and 11 rebounds as he recorded his sixth career double-double. Cedric Jenkins also added 17 points off the bench for the Eagles.
The Eagles used an impressive defensive performance to win the contest, forcing 32 turnovers on the game and tying the school record with 23 steals.
