USM receives “green college” recognition

The University of Southern Mississippi recently received a “green college” designation from the Princeton Review, alongside the University of Mississippi.

The Princeton Review’s annual guide reviews 322 secondary education institutions in the United States and Canada that demonstrate dedication to sustaining academics, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation.

The Princeton Review chose the schools based on a survey conducted in 2011 based on hundreds of colleges in the U.S. and Canada in order to configure its annual “green rating” scores.

The survey asked school administrators over 50 questions about their institution’s sustainability, specifically, related policies, practices and programs. The green ratings for 768 institutions were counted last year. Overall, 322 schools were recognized in the guide, receiving scores of 83 or above in the assessment.
