SGA to host Miss USM Scholarship Pageant

The Student Government Association of the University of Southern Mississippi will host the annual Miss USM Scholarship Pageant on Oct. 27 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase talent, compete for a scholarship, and represent USM at the Miss Mississippi Pageant in Feb. 2013. Interest meetings will be held Sept. 10 at 7 p.m., Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. and Sep. 14 at 4 p.m. in the Student Activities Hub. For more information, contact SGA at missusmpageant12@gmail.com

Hattiesburg Zoo kicks off childhood cancer awareness month

The Seth Harris Childhood Cancer Foundation will host “Go Wild for a Cure” on Saturday at the Hattiesburg Zoo to mark the beginning of childhood cancer awareness month. Mississippi Blood Services and Be the Match! Bone Marrow Registry will be set up in Kamper Park, and the SHCCF will be handing out balloons from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 per adult and $3 for child, and profits will benefit Blair E.
