"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor (active) homosexuals, nor (passive) homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Sex can be a beautiful and meaningful act. For some couples sex can even help to strengthen and deepen the shared emotional bonds. But sex can also maim and kill when common sense is ignored. I was watching the movie "Rising Sun" starring Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes the first time I realized people could die while having consensual sex.
So, I went to Books-a-Million to see the girls of Conference-USA, girls from USM, signing copies of Playboy with photos of their naked bodies inside. This has been such an interesting topic of debate in the Pinebelt; I had to see the end results. The Printz has put in two semesters, and I have put in over 1000 words on the subject.
The act of conversion, bringing others closer to your own faith in the hope they will join, is an important part of the religious experience for many. I don't think I can count the number of times I have been insulted, berated or verbally abused during what was supposed to be a conversion experience.
Wednesday, April 18, is the national Day of Silence at high schools and colleges, including USM, across the country. The Day of Silence is an annual event held to bring attention to anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools. Students and teachers nationwide will observe the day in silence to echo the silence that LGBT and ally students face everyday.
Although I appreciate the debunking of misunderstandings of the Islamic faith (being that I am a Muslim), I would like to get word to Cordelia Haecker, author of the recent opinion piece: ["Muslim beliefs are often misunderstood" April 5, 2007] She states "While Muslims do not believe Jesus was the Messiah", which is in fact not true.
Well, it is spring and the rapists have come out of their winter hibernation. In the last month, women have been attacked on the Longleaf Trace, abducted and gang raped in Hattiesburg, and raped on the USM campus. As a rape survivor/thriver, let me just say this: go to hell, you bastards.
In reading the Printz as of lately, I've been somewhat inspired to write something in a hopeful and positive rhetoric. I would hope to come across and express thoughts in a way that's not self-righteous or pompous, but purely with the intent of writing in a form of conviction.
