Printz looks for new Pillow Talk writer

Many of you have already noticed that Pillow Talk is missing from today's paper.

I can honestly say that this is probably the hardest column I have ever had to write, so I'll just spit it out. Glory Fink will no longer be writing Pillow Talk for The Student Printz. I know that Ms. Fink will be missed by many, but I have to do what I feel is best for this publication and for our readers.

I'm sure many of you have read Ms. Fink's article from last week on her personal Web site, askglory.com, and wondered why it didn't run in the paper. Parts of her article were libelous, and I chose not to run it. I did not make this decision lightly, and I consulted our faculty adviser and an expert in media law who both agreed with me.

This newspaper is a training ground for real journalists. We do things the right way or we don't do them at all. We don't know everything there is to know about journalism. But we do have these wonderful resources called professors who help us every step of the way.

I have every intention of continuing Pillow
Talk, and we are taking applications for the position effective immediately. I am looking for someone who writes well, is informative yet entertaining, has a thick skin for criticism and is mature enough to talk about sex in an open and honest way.

Anyone interested should come to the Printz
office in the basement of Southern Hall. Because of the sensitive nature of this column, please attach a sample column to your application.

Until we find a suitable writer for Pillow Talk, we will be running a column called Kinsey Confidential. This syndicated column comes from the Kinsey Institute Sexuality Information Service for Students. The Kinsey Institute was founded by Alfred Kinsey.

I'm betting you didn't consult your "expert in media law" before you printed this...

I fully support your decision, Ashley.
It was best for the paper.
Good for you.

"This newspaper is a training ground for real journalists."

I think it's going a little far if you're not calling Glory a journalist. Yes, she is untraditional but some of her article's are ten times better than the other things the "journalists" are writing. (Continued…)

I loved this weeks column once I found it that she's still posting them on her website... askglory.com

Is there any reason she can no longer write the column. A disagreement over one article would not seem like a reason to terminate an entire column. Is Glory refusing to submit any more articles?

Alright, I'm confused here. She got fired within days, because of one article that was submitted and not published and was published on another blog? Where is the policy stating that all material submitted to the Printz in absolutely exclusive? I missed that one somewhere. (Continued…)

I am as liberal as a texan can get, aka Austinite, and a newspaper should be a forum for civilized stories and news of today. Shock writing has its place and it is in magazines or other avenues made for specifically that purpose. (Continued…)

A training ground for real journalist. I have attended USM for three years and all I ever see in this "newspaper" is advertisements. We all gotta pay the bills but when I see StudentPrints papers left in the bins for weeks I think we might need a change. (Continued…)

Susan. Get over it and yourself. The horse is dead, stop beating it.

Look under "forums:" this has been addressed.

Thanks,
Jake
