Saunders to give convocation, State of the University

President Martha Saunders will give her first State of the University address during the 2007 Fall Convocation at Bennett Auditorium today at 3 p.m.
The Convocation is a back-to-school ceremony for the Hattiesburg campus faculty and staff to hear from the President. The ceremony will be in memory of members of the who Southern Miss family who passed away during the 2006-2007 school year and in recognition of the faculty and staff's accomplishments and awards. There will also be a video reflecting on the success of the 2006-07 school year.
In the State of the University address,
Saunders will be speaking about the past year's highlights in academics and student affairs. She will also discuss this year's planning process for the university.
The planning process will include campus dialogs between small groups on campus. There will be eight groups on the Hattiesburg campus and four on the Gulf Coast campus. The groups will consist of about 40 people who will discuss areas of strength and energy to help make plans for the university.
Music for the ceremony will be provided by the University of Southern Mississippi Ensemble, and the alma mate will be sung by Maryann Kyle, an assistant professor in the School of Music.
There will be a reception at the Aubrey K. Lucas Administration building with refreshments provided by the Fresh Food Company.
The ceremony will be broadcast on the Southern Miss homepage starting at 2:55 p.m.
