Letters to the Editor: Fink's firing does disservice to Student Printz readers

Dear Editor,
I participated with Glory Fink in a college sex roundtable discussion for Playboy magazine. Currently, I write a column called Sex on Tuesday for UC Berkeley's The Daily Californian. It's unfortunate that The Student Printz would lose a talented and informative writer over a small quibble that could have been resolved.
I read the article in question on Fink's blog, and I don't see any reason for firing her. I don't know what the problem was, unless the editors were concerned with her listing the legal troubles of the three celebrities. Certainly checking facts and properly using the qualifiers "allegedly" or "according to police" (when appropriate) would have sufficed. I would encourage the editors to rethink their decision and at least extend an apology for their rash decision.
It's a shame that The Student Printz would silence a voice so essential to informing the student body. Perhaps I'm lucky to have a soapbox in Berkeley, Calif., but I believe that the contemporary student body deserves to have an entertaining and informative figure to deliver safer sex advice and data. Good luck with continuing the column, and I hope this does not deter you from the continuing Pillow Talk.
