With floats, tailgating and a football game to enjoy, Homecoming gave the entire USM community an opportunity to come together and enjoy time spent as Golden Eagles. One organization, however, had another reason to celebrate.

In a Homecoming reunion Saturday, Kappa Delta sorority at USM welcomed Bonnie Purvis Warren, the national president of the sorority. Warren, a Hattiesburg native, was a member of the USM chapter of Kappa Delta. She has served as the national president of Kappa Delta for the past two years, and was re-elected last June to serve another term.

Generations of Kappa Deltas were present for the Homecoming event.

"We had alumni from 1949 to 2006 present at the reunion," said Brittany Barkley, a junior biology major from Brandon. "There were women from the very first pledge class."

Barkley feels that Warren's accomplishments bring a lot of pride to the USM chapter of Kappa Delta.

"There were 425 people at the reunion, plus the 85 active members," said Barkley. "President Warren really represents us all."

Beth Richardson, a senior mathematics major from Vancleave, is the current president of Kappa Delta, and was glad to host a prestigious alumna.

"I was really excited that so many alums came back to celebrate with us," said Richardson. "Having the national president be a member of our chapter is something we really pride ourselves on."

The reunion was a dedication ceremony, where members of the sorority honored Warren for her accomplishments by dedicating the chapter room of the Kappa Delta house to her.

Melissa Weinberger, a sophomore general studies major from Waldorf, Md., believes the reunion was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of Warren.

"It was awesome to get to meet her," said Weinberger. "You almost forget when she walks around the house that she's the national president."

President Martha Saunders, a Chi Omega member here at USM, was one of the speakers at the Homecoming event.
