The Southern Miss Pink Committee is hosting a Womanless Beauty Pageant to bring together the USM community and wrap up a month full of promoting awareness and fundraising.

The event, which will feature USM men competing in pink pageant attire will take place tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center, Ballroom I.

Health promotion coordinator Jodi Tate has been working to make the event a success.

"We hope to bring awareness and support by providing something fun, something more exciting than a walk," said Tate. "A womanless beauty pageant is also a great way to get men involved, they need to be educated about breast cancer as well."

All proceeds raised from the event will be donated for research and support for those victimized by the disease.

Twelve contestants have registered to participate in the contest, and will be judged for numerous awards during the pageant. The awards will be runner-up, best legs, best smile, best dressed, most pink spirit and the overall winner of the pageant.

The winner will be chosen by votes, which can bought by anyone. Votes can be bought at $1 each at many voting booths across campus.

Ashely Wreay, health promotion coordinator, said the event is meant to both entertain and educate the audience in the necessity to spread breast cancer awareness.

"It's not just awareness to its existence, however, it's awareness for the need for women to go and get screened," said Wreay.

"Early detection means early cure."
Sarah Catherine Robinson, a junior tourism management major from Jackson, believes this year's breast cancer awareness events have been fun and effective.

"All of the events this month for awareness have been really creative and original," said Robinson. "Having a womanless beauty pageant to spread awareness and raise money is a great idea, something that a wide range of people can get involved in."
