Head coach Jeff Bower was fired this morning after 17 years as coach of the Golden Eagle football team. Bower compiled a 119 - 82 - 1 record at Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles (7 - 5) clinched their 14th consecutive winning season with a 16 - 10 victory over Arkansas State Saturday.
A Southern Miss student died Thursday evening at Forrest General Hospital after collapsing in Bond Hall. Robert Dickson, a 22-year-old junior from Clinton, collapsed in Bond Hall about 5:30 p.m. University police were contacted and emergency aid was administered before Dickson was transported to Forrest General.
