The Traveling Palate: Break your traditional feast out of the shell this Easter

Easter eggs have a lot more meaningful symbolism then just being dyed and decorated. Easter eggs symbolize the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For me, Easter Sunday is a day where my family spends time together and celebrates our Lord and Savior. It is tradition in my family to wake up early and make breakfast before my family and I leave for church. My dad even joins in and cooks the eggs. Start a tradition this Easter and make a gourmet Southern breakfast for your family or friends and get everyone to help.
Add a new twist to a Southern favorite and serve a grits bar. Cook grits until soft and creamy. Offer an array of toppings such as shredded cheddar cheese, jalapenos, red and green bell peppers, mushrooms, bacon bits, and green onions. Grits have become very popular and not just as a breakfast item but as an entrée. If you want to have brunch instead of breakfast, serve grits with shrimp. I love the combination of shrimp and grits and I know you will too.
Eggs can be prepared many ways including scrambled, poached, and boiled to name a few but think outside the box. Use eggs to make a breakfast pizza. Line a baking dish with crescent roll dough and top with cooked crumbled sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, and an egg mixture of eggs, milk, and salt and pepper. Bake the pizza until golden brown and serve. Everyone young and old will love this breakfast pizza.
Even sweets can be part of breakfast and I love a sweet treat. Crepes are lacy pancakes that can be stuffed with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, or any other kind of fruit. Add decadence to crepes with sprinkled powdered sugar or topped with a dollop of whipped cream. How can you feel bad about eating something sweet for breakfast when it's wrapped in fruit?
