The University of Southern Mississippi will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008.

All offices and classes at both the Hattiesburg and Gulf Park campuses will be closed in preparation for Hurricane Gustav.

The Southern Miss Activities Council is continuing a long-time tradition tomorrow evening as it presents the season's first Friday Night at the Fountain. SMAC President Brian Harris said that Friday Night at the Fountain is a tradition at Southern Miss meant to excite students and show school spirit before the game Saturday.

Fedora era kicks off with a bang

The Fedora Era opened with a bang Saturday night in the form of a 51-21 blowout win over Louisianan Lafayette in front of an announced crowd of 32,792 at M.M. Roberts Stadium.

Damion Fletcher ran for 222 yards on just 21 carries, setting a new career high for yards, and scored two touchdowns. Fletcher also set a career mark for average yards-per-carry with a 10.5 average.
