What a difference a week can make?

It's amazing how much difference a week and a win can make.
A week ago the Golden Eagle football team had us all thumbing through media guides trying to figure out who it was gashing them for yards. This week, we were going through the record books trying to figure out how many records the Eagles broke in their 70-14 romp over rival UAB Saturday.
Coach Fedora swears the team didn't do anything differently leading up to the game, prompting writers at his weekly press conference to ask everything about last Saturday's routine from what the team wore to what their pregame meal consisted of.
But to be fair, something had to be different.
The Golden Eagles flipped the script on the Blazers, and inflicted the kind of offensive beating that opponents had put on the Eagles the past three weeks. The Eagle offense put up 610 yards of total offense, a number that could have been much higher if Fedora hadn't called off the dogs about halfway through the third quarter.
The defense, which allowed 516 yards of offense to Memphis a week ago, allowed just 223 yards and forced 6 turnovers against UAB.
"It's important for everyone to know that we didn't do anything differently than we have every week," Fedora said. "On film, I'd like to say our guys were more pumped or prepared, but I saw the same intensity I've gotten all season."
Whatever you did, coach Fedora, keep doing it.
BASKETBALL DIGGS
The women's basketball team unveiled the first look at the new basketball facilities at their annual media day Monday, and everyone involved was truly impressed.
The offices are an unbelievable upgrade from last year, when the teams had to play out of trailers.
Lady Eagle coach Joye-Lee McNelis said that although she likes her new office, she's going to miss having to spray roundup on the weeds that were trying to grow into her air-conditioning window unit in her old office in her trailer.
"I don't know what the allergy medication companies are going to do," McNelis said. "I know I've been keeping them in business for the past two years."
In all seriousness, the upgrade to the facilities were a long time coming, and will help not only in recruiting, but with the overall opinion that other teams have of Southern Miss when they come and play at the Greenhouse.
Also, kudos to Mr. Giannini and the entire athletic staff for making the women's facilities completely equal to the men's. It shows their dedication to equality, and that's something we can all get behind.
GEORGE O'LEARY
I would like to use this space to introduce the petition to make Central Florida our unofficial fourth rival.
We already have UAB, Tulane and Memphis, but two of the three aren't really competition year in and year out, and the other is a juggernaut in basketball.
Central Florida is a team that is on par with us in facilities and fan base, and our competitions are always competitive.
lso, UCF football coach George O'Leary is a coach that you love to hate. He's like Steve Spurrier without the winning tradition.
