  • Fraternity to host Sports Challenge
This is a wonderful story and great news! But everyone should know that there is a Florida based medical company called Regenocyte treating Cystic Fibrosis patients with their own adult stem cells. And we are seeing absolutely amazing results! Many of our lung patients are seeing decreased oxygen usage and much better overall lung function. Most of all their quality of life has changed and they are doing things they haven't done in years! To learn more or to speak with actual treated patients, call 239-333-1239 or visit www.regenocyte.com

  • Bryant announces budget cuts
Bryant has it right when discussing airplane maintenance costs. "Bryant said that he'd sell a state jet in order to raise $2 million dollars initially, saving $500,000 a year in annual maintenance costs."

See, www.usmnews.net for updated details of the cost of the airplane President Saunders bought with student and taxpayer money: "Cost Per Flight Hour, Cost and Uses of N777AQ at the University of Southern Mississippi."

An excerpt: "Five million dollars could pay for a lot of student scholarships and professor salaries."

  • Southern Miss to build fence around campus
Super idea, wish it could be a 14 Ft tall brick/stone fence that had ivy growing on its side. This would distquish the University of Southern Mississippi. I know when I vist other campuses, esp. those in a city the size of Hattiesburg or larger, and you go through the gates of the scholl surronded by a large fence you feel like you are entering into a place with class and distinction. Rice is a great example, compared to U of Houston its perimiter makes it 4x as classy.

  • Barbie: Bald and beautiful?
I've been following this push by facebook users for Mattel to create a bald barbie doll with a lot of invested interest because I am a childhood brain tumor survivor and am now a young adult advocate for survivors. I found this to be a very well written take on the campaign but I have to present my input on why I believe this is NOT a good idea. First of all, Barbie is the idealized image of beauty, not an accurate measure. By saying that girls who would admire this doll are using it as a way to feel beautiful, this would be false because it has been proven that the dimensions and structure of a Barbie doll are physically unachievable and give young girls a false image to look up too.

I do agree that it's important for every one to be aware of diversity amoungst each others, to show "regular" girls that there might be a reason that their classmate is bald or otherwise sick, and that an understanding to accept others should be taught, but to say that a girl with cancer is otherwise normal other than being bald is a HUGE untruth. and a major reason I disagree with this doll to begin with - this doll represents a bald person and this is it. A person going through chemo and radiation sometimes has scars, burn marks on their skin, can become either scarily skinny due to nausea as an effect from treatmens OR become severely overweight due to high amounts of steroids given. Sometimes they need use of a traec, are hooked up to cathaters and IV poles, lose limbs, and many children (especially those with brain tumors) suffer from facial paralysis where they cannot move one side of their face and it is presented in a very drawn position. The illnesses are usually present for the rest of their lives - not because the cancer still exists but because the side effects from treatments and damage the cancer did to their bodies are irreversible. Unless this barbie doll was created to show all of these things, then it would be a false and, I think, a very offensive representation of what cancer sufferers go through. Cancer is NOT pretty - not one little bit. Trying to make is sound pretty is misrepresenting it and creating a false image to those who had like to support patients and survivors, but do not truly know what it is like. I think that more importantly than creating an awareness through a doll, people should become more educated on this issue.

  • Dorm room sex etiquette 101
This article comes across as a bit vulgar to say the least. I think the author and editor enjoy rocking the boat.. and are basically trolls trying to get a rise out of people. Good, I'll take the bait. This newspaper used to have some decency years ago but there's so many vulgar articles and others with liberal political agendas these days. I understand that the Constitution of the United States offers freedom of speech, but with freedom comes responsibility too. There are community decency laws for a reason (that's why pornography production is illegal in all states except California). The author should take up a job over there on the west coast where she'll be accepted as part of the "norm".

  • Students appear in Playboy
Although this is an old article (not sure why they keep an article like up unless they are proud of it), I'll comment. The Student Printz has come a long way in shedding its morals over the years. Even when I was a student there in the early '90s, articles such as these - and the others which are even worse - never made it to print. That says a lot about some people these days and it is really sad.

  • Letter to the editor
This is seriously the worst article I may have ever read. It has absolutely no substance. This is merely this guy's proclamation that he is some kind of love doctor. No one cares about how great of advice he gives and how much he may know. I read the Student Printz every time it comes out and this is just embarrassing to publish. The only thing I can imagine is that there are rarely letters to the editor submitted and this was your way of rewarding someone who did. This topic has no relevance to anything and this guy has no credibility except in his own mind. I am not sure who could actually read this and take anything at all from it.

  • Tabletgate: Students asked to return Samsung Galaxy Tabs
Why is it that the people in the administration who were punished are all men, but the high-level administrators people photographed and publicized handing out the tablets were female? Is this incident typical of the misandry present in most organizations, including universities, that dictates that men pay the price?

As to the student whining about being "helped out," it really sounds like the only thing he wants is a free tablet. If he wants stuff for free from a university, he better become a football or basketball player.
