The Southern Miss soccer tournament scheduled for this weekend has been canceled. The announcement comes just one day after the tournament was pushed back one day because of Hurricane Isaac.

The tournament was originally scheduled for Friday and Sunday, then pushed back to a Saturday and Monday schedule, before Isaac caused the tournament to be canceled altogether.

Southern Miss is still scheduled to play one game this weekend. The Lady Eagles will take on the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks on Monday at 1 p.m.

Southern Miss head coach Scott Ebke said that the storm left the coaches with no other choice but to cancel the tournament.

“Under these conditions, it would not have been a safe environment to play and we will always put the safety of our student-athletes first,” Ebke said in a statement made on the athletic department website.

However, Ebke is grateful that his team will be able to play on Monday.

“We were fortunate enough to be able to keep Louisiana Monroe on the schedule and look forward to the challenge they present on Monday,” Ebke said.

The match will take place at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. Admission is free.
