More than 1,200 people traveled to the Lake Terrace Convention Center on Friday night to watch the National Pan-Hellenic Council at the University of Southern Mississippi Step Show.

Excitement was in the air as the audience waited for the show to begin, and sororities and fraternities party-hopped and strolled down the aisles. Seats were filled, and many people stood along the walls to watch the show. The host, Dukk, a comedian kept the crowd laughing throughout the show with his stand-up and authentic YouTube videos, including “Sh*it Greeks Say.”

Sophomore criminal justice major Amber Gaspard has attended the step show the past two years.

“I love to see what they will come up with,” Gaspard said. “It’s always been entertaining and fun, and this year wasn’t an exception.”

Five fraternities and four sororities competed in the show. First place for the fraternities was awarded to the Theta Eta chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. received second place.

The winner of the sororities was the Iota Kappa chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and second place was awarded to the Mu Nu chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Morgan Bradley, a junior business management major and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, dedicated hours of hard work and preparation with her sisters to their performance.

“We contributed a lot of time, sweat and tears into this performance, and it definitely paid off in the long run,” Bradley said.
