This fall, The University of Southern Mississippi College Panhellenic Council (CPC) announced its expansion of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Starting with an online interest survey for possible members and ending with its official bid day, Alpha Chi gave out 110 bids.

Bid day took place at The Village Sunday afternoon and other sorority chapters were there to welcome the new women into Greek Life. The new sisters shared food and bonding time on Sunday’s bid day.

Kristina Dumas, a senior music education major and a new member of Alpha Chi, said the bid day took place at the Camellia House.

“It was such jovial time for the girls,” said Rosey Lau, a freshman art and psychology double major and a member of Delta Delta Delta. “I could feel their excitement like what I have recently experienced. I’m so happy that each girl found her home and they get to proudly say they are the beginning of a new chapter.”

As the other sorority chapters cheered for the Alpha Chi women, bid day brought a new atmosphere to the row.

“We held signs with their names on them and took many pictures for them to make memories,” Lau said. “After that, the new members gathered together with the original Alpha Chi Omega recruiters. I welcomed my friend Maggie Dickerson, who is also a freshman.”

The new member educators of Alpha Chi are Kaelyn Wolfe and Lauren English, members of Delta Delta Delta, and the resident consultant is Sami Holley. Many ponder the difference of this sorority chapter and how its addition would affect the rest of Greek life on campus.

“I expect nothing different,” Lau said. “I expect times to be full of fun, sisterhood and friendship, that will last a lifetime. The only difference would be another addition of a new sorority.”

The new sorority hosted a philanthropy night Thursday, Sept. 11.  Those who were interested got to know one another and learned more about Alpha Chi.

The week following, interviews were held and girls were invited to another Alpha Chi event called the “Picture Yourself an Alpha Chi” Sept. 17. Bids were announced the Saturday before bid day that took place Sunday.
