Scianna Hall dedicated to its namesake

-

On Friday, Sept. 4, The University of Southern Mississippi’s newest facility, Scianna Hall, was officially dedicated to Chuck Scianna in a historic ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Scianna attended at the ceremony and was joined by University of Southern Mississippi President Rodney Bennett, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, College of Business dean Faye Gilbert and Student Government Association president Jeffrey George as hundreds of guests celebrated a new era for both Southern Miss and the College of Business.

Scianna, who graduated from USM in 1975, donated $6 million of the $10 million in private funds that brought the $34 million facility into fruition.

The new home for over 2,000 business students, faculty and staff is, at three stories and 93,000 square feet, now one of the most prominent and recognizable features of the university’s campus.

It is equipped with updated technology and specialized classrooms that the former business building, Joseph Greene Hall, did not offer.

“This building is the space age, particularly compared to the stone age of the previous College of Business facility,” – Scianna

One of the university’s most active and supportive alumni, he is in the Southern Miss Hall of Fame and serves on the board of directors for both the USM Foundation and the Southern Miss Athletics Foundation.

“Scianna Hall will be a game changer for the College of Business. Because of the generous support of alumnus Chuck Scianna, this new facility offers today’s business students with an incredible environment in which to develop the skills necessary for success in a changing business environment,” said Jerry DeFatta, executive director of the Southern Miss Alumni Association. “With continued investment in hiring and retaining outstanding faculty and staff, the College of Business is well on its way to becoming one of the premier business education programs in the region.”
